Week One

So, Down Days has been out in the world for a whole week! That’s pretty petrifying šŸ˜€

First, a huge round of thanks to all of you that spread the word on day one and even read it as well. I can’t possibly thank you all individually (because..you know…laziness) but you know who you are.

As I’m sure you can imagine, throwing something out there with so much personal information in it could have been a real catastrophe. But it wasn’t. In fact, on that first day, the reaction was so overwhelmingly positive that I had myself a little teary moment. Within hours of Down Days hitting the web, I’d had emails from people as far afield as Australia (Thanks for getting in touch, Pixie) and Malaysia (Dean, nice talking to you) either sharing their own stories or just support for the cause. The Twitter/Facebook crowd were incredible as well, and we’d had something like 750 hits on the blog by the end of the first day and over 1000 by a couple of days later. That’s pretty damned spectacular.

Also, there has been a lot of talk of bravery. You can cut that shit right out. Don’t make me roll up a newspaper and bop you people on the nose!

Let’s not forget why we’re here, folks. We need to keep spreading the word, and expressing what it’s like to be us. That means sharing your stories, poems, thoughts and musings. We’re here to listen. There are a few on the way already, so keep an eye out for those. But every experience shared increases the chance of squashing that stigma. So, I implore you, don’t leave me here blathering on to myself. It’ll get real boring.

Thanks again, everyone. Keep up the good work wherever you are in the world.
